What is the purpose and responsibility of the Peninsula Property Owners Association (PPOA)?

  • To preserve, protect and continuously enhance the value and amenities of The Peninsula for property owner’s enjoyment and benefit.

Why are there Covenants and Restrictions?

  • They are not to create a look alike community or suggest everything be the same.
  • They are for the preservation of quality in construction and landscaping.
  • They are for the protection of all homeowners, but not at the expense of individuality, to be sure the community retains its value, beauty and compatibility with the entire neighborhood

What is the purpose of the PPOA Architectural and Landscape Committee (ACC)?

  • ACC was established by the PPOA board to enforce the covenants and restrictions that relate to aesthetic issues within The Peninsula.
  • The ACC is responsible for reviewing submitted plans, approving projects and recommending enforcement of the Covenants and Restrictions.
  • To provide a timely response to submitted requests for changes
  • To be sure such improvements meet the ACC guidelines

How do I get a copy of the ACC guidelines?

  • Contact members of the ACC committee
  • Contact Hawthorne Management
  • Contact the membership office at the Peninsula Club

How do I go about requesting approval for “ improvements”?

  • Use the PPOA website to obtain a copy of the Request for Approval form
  • Include with the request all necessary documentation, plans and brochures as well as your lot survey
  • For questions contact members of the ACC and/ Hawthorne Management.

Is the ACC involved with Dock modification?

  • Improvements that require ACC approval include dock modifications, piers, mooring posts, boat lifts, boathouses, boat slips and docks
  • Dock construction and certain modifications require approval from Duke Power Lake Management—704-382-8086
  • Duke will require permits from Cornelius Planning-704-896-2461
  • Mecklenburg County will issue a pier permit placard-704-432-2520
  • ACC will require all permits be in place as a condition of your Request for Approval form pertaining to changes with your dock
  • Any waterfront improvement should have a low profile and open design to minimize obstructions of views

Government/Safety Committee
Questions/Answers

1. “I have potholes on my street; who do I contact about this?”

For any street in the community, contact one of the members of the Government/Safety Committee:

Mark Vincent
Mike McLaughlin

If the pothole is on either Jetton Rd. or John Conner Rd, this is handled by the state DOT; otherwise, the Town of Cornelius is the responsible party.

2. “Who do I call if I see private golf carts on the street or on the sidewalks?”

The Town of Cornelius has repeatedly encouraged any citizen with this complaint to call “911” and report the incident.  Such use of a golf cart is not allowed at any time.

3. “What do I do if there is a problem at McGuire Nuclear Station?”

Alerts will be made outdoors via the sirens that are in the area; to alert people indoors, radio and television stations will broadcast informational messages.  If no message is available, one can call the Mecklenburg County Emergency Management Office at (704) 336-2412 during normal business hours or (704) 943-6200 after hours.
