President's Message

Dear Peninsula Property Owners & Friends of the Peninsula,

Summer is here and our community will be filled with children at play during the day.  I urge everyone to be mindful of our speed limits and to take extra care at the many pedestrian crossings that are now clearly marked.  Please be especially careful around our parks, the Country and Yacht Clubs where pedestrian traffic is abundant.

Major changes have happened as your Board has begun its’ capital projects program with the rehabilitation of our monuments.  Each monument has been cleaned, the logos and lettering repainted, and new lights installed to enhance illumination.  Our summer flowers are now in place and as they mature we anticipate a colorful and lush summer display.  This project is the first of many large and small efforts to enhance to beauty and appeal of this wonderful community.

A major undertaking has been the rehabilitation of our irrigation system that has been experiencing breakdowns and poor coverage for the last several years.  Our contractor has replaced a large percentage of our sprinkler heads with commercial grade heads designed specifically for lake water.  Many of our flower bed “pop up” heads have been replaced by new heads that will pop up to 12 inches to better cover the flower beds as the foliage grows and matures.  An idle pump station has been reactivated and numerous leaks and broken lines have been repaired.

Sadly, the Board has lost the presence of Beth Burkett who has moved out of the Peninsula to Denver, N.C, just across the lake.  Beth who has chaired our Landscape Committee will be missed.  Taking her place on the Board will be Dave Alexander who is not stranger to our community.  Dave has a reputation for dedication and hard work and served on the Board in the recent past.  He will be serving on the Landscape Committee that is now short its most productive member.  We wish you God speed, Beth, and welcome aboard Dave.

Hopefully, you are enjoying the new format of our newsletter that is published each quarter.  I am always looking for articles of interest and hope that should any resident wish to offer material for the newsletter, it will be graciously accepted.  The Board is also, always looking for volunteers to serve on committees, help with the good work of our Neighborhood Captains, and run for positions on the Board itself.  If you wish to contribute to your community, please contact a board member of myself.

Have a great summer and be safe!

            Jim Duke
            President
